The Red Book of Ossory Lecture Series

This year, The Red Book of Ossory returned to its home at St Canice’s Cathedral for a year long exhibition. The lecture series takes place across 4 evenings to bring the book back to the heart of the Cathedral, where it was penned over 700 years ago. The lectures include Dr Adrian Empey, Dr John Gillis, Maeve Brigid Callan and Dr Ann Buckley. Find out more on the series here.

Halloween Mid-Term Camp at St Canice’s Cathedral

The Halloween Mid-Term Camp at St Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower is always one to look out for at Mid-Term break. Taking place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th of October from 10.30am – 1.30pm. Activities for children will include arts and crafts to create a collection of Halloween themed crafts and decorations for the spooky season. This camp will interest those with a love of all things creative and Halloween, in the unique setting of St. Canice’s Cathedral! Toil and Trouble

Step back in time to 1324 and uncover the chilling tale of Ireland’s first Witchcraft Trial during Kilkenny’s newest festival, running from October 28th to November 3rd, 2024. Discover the spells cast on society as we delve into the infamous Kilkenny Witch Trials. Learn about the powerful and wealthy Alice Kyteler, accused of witchcraft and heresy by the Bishop of Ossory, Richard Ledrede. Alongside Alice’s story, explore the tragic fate of Petronella de Meath, the first person in Ireland to be executed for witchcraft. Find out more and get a full list of events here.

Savour Kilkenny Food Festival

The Savour Kilkenny food festival runs from the 25th to the 28th of October. It celebrates the very best of local Irish produce and offers a feast of food markets, cooking demonstrations, and workshops, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of the region.

Autumn in Kilkenny is a season of transformation, where the city's history, culture, and nature come together in a celebration of warmth and beauty. Here at St Canice’s Cathedral, we are open for guided and self-guided tours from Monday to Saturday. This includes our Red Book of Ossory exhibition as well as climbs of the Round Tower.
